Bhangarh Fort
A fort built in 1573 below the Aravalli hills, abandoned and left as standing ruin. The Archaeological Survey of India sign that closes it between sunset and sunrise is read as proof of a curse and was issued for crowd control.

Kailasa Temple, Ellora
Published estimates of how much basalt was cut away to leave the Kailasa Temple standing range from about 150,000 to 400,000 metric tons, and no two of them agree. The direction of work is not in dispute: the crews started at the top of the cliff and cut downward.

Kuldhara
Kuldhara was not abandoned by itself. In 1825, the Paliwal Brahmins left it and roughly 83 neighboring villages at the same time. The legend keeps one village and one night. The record describes a whole community walking out of a district.
- Uttarakhand
Roopkund Lake
A glacial lake in Uttarakhand ringed with several hundred human skeletons, reported by a forest ranger in 1942. Genome sequencing in 2019 showed they are not one population and did not die in one event.
