Methodology

Sources, evidence, and the limits of the strange.

We add citations wherever reliable sources are available and clearly separate documented facts from reported claims.

What counts as a source

  • Local newspaper archives and reputable investigative journalism
  • Peer-reviewed research where available
  • Folklore archives, museum records, and academic studies of legend
  • Official reports (police, military, government) where they exist
  • Primary witness accounts, clearly labeled as such

What we won't do

  • Fabricate witness quotes or events
  • Present folklore as documented fact
  • Hide skeptical explanations when they exist
  • Treat suffering or tragedy as entertainment

Credibility labels

Sources are tagged: primary, secondary, press, or folklore. Folklore is fascinating; it just isn't evidence.
