Castle of Good Hope
The bell over the gate was cast in Amsterdam in 1697 and walled up after a soldier hanged himself with its rope. Guards on night duty still report hearing it. The governor who died in his chair on April 23, 1729, is said to have been cursed that morning by one of seven men he had sent to the gallows.

The Delville Wood Crosses
Crosses cut from a single battlefield pine stand in Cape Town and Pietermaritzburg as memorials to one of South Africa's bloodiest battles. Every July, in the days the battle was fought, one sister cross weeps red resin. The others stay dry.
