Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum
A 5,000-year-old underground necropolis in Malta holds the remains of thousands and a chamber with a strong acoustic resonance. Its excavators described the skulls they could measure as long-headed, and later writers took that as proof of deliberately elongated, even alien, skulls. The surviving skulls are on show at the National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta.
