Havana (Playa)
Fusterlandia
In 1994, the ceramist José Rodríguez Fuster tiled the gate of his house in Jaimanitas, a fishing village where Havana's Quinta Avenida runs out. A neighbor asked for a sign reading "Doña Iris," signs for two more women followed, and his mosaics now cover houses, two bus stops, a chess park, and the family doctor's office. Published counts range from dozens of houses to more than 150. Fuster pays for the tile by selling his own paintings and ceramics, and in May 2025, at 79, he was tiling a new house facing the sea.
