The Tree of Life
A single tree stands on bare sand in the Bahraini desert with no well and no other vegetation in sight. The tourist literature calls it a 400-year-old mesquite. A dendrochronology study in the 1990s concluded it is an acacia planted in 1582, and an excavation found it is standing on top of a buried town.
