The Emilcin Monument
A granite block in a Polish field marks the spot where a 71-year-old farmer said two short beings in black suits climbed onto his horse cart in 1978 and took him aboard a machine. The police commander concluded he had dreamed it. The psychiatrist who examined him concluded he was not making it up.

Jan Wolski was driving a horse cart near Emilcin on the morning of May 10, 1978, when two figures the size of children, in tight black suits, climbed up beside him. He said they rode with him for a while, then walked him into a silver machine hovering above a clearing, where he was undressed and examined by beings who did not speak to him. He was 71. He went straight to the police.
Lieutenant Stanislaw Plis, the police commander at Opole Lubelskie, investigated and concluded that Wolski had dreamed it. A psychiatrist, Dr. Ryszard Krasilewicz, examined him and concluded something different: whatever had happened, Wolski was not fabricating the account. He told the same story, without embellishment, until he died in 1990.
The case against it
In 2012, the writer Bartosz Rdultowski published an argument that the whole episode had been staged by one Polish ufologist to discredit a rival, and that Wolski had been used. Polish ufological circles rejected it. TVN24 revisited the hoax thesis in a 2025 investigation timed to the monument's 20th anniversary, and the question is not settled either way.
What is on the record is the sequence: a farmer with no history of this, a police report filed the same day, a psychiatric assessment, and a story that never changed.
The monument
The Nautilus Foundation, based in Warsaw, put up a granite block topped by a metal cube in the clearing and unveiled it on October 15, 2005. The inscription reads that on May 10, 1978, in Emilcin, a UFO object landed, and that truth will still amaze us.
Somebody in a neighboring yard has since added alien figures, which is how these things go. The village now runs a ufological picnic on the anniversary weekend each May.
Visiting Information
Free, unstaffed, and open at any hour. The monument stands in a clearing reached by a minor road with a small pull-off, and there is nothing else at the site.
The anniversary weekend in May is the one time anything is organized here, when the village runs its ufological picnic. The rest of the year this is a stone in a field, which is arguably the point.
Emilcin sits west of Lublin, about an hour by car, and works best combined with something else in the region rather than as a destination on its own.

During a field investigation in early 1984, Project Hessdalen's instruments recorded 53 light events, some registered at the same moment by radar and magnetometers. An automated station built in 1998 still runs cameras, radar, and spectrum analyzers in the valley, and by 2010 it was logging 10 to 20 sightings a year.

Loring Air Force Base Weapons Storage Area
On the evening of October 27, 1975, by one account, a security policeman guarding the nuclear weapons storage area at Loring Air Force Base watched an aircraft with a red light and a white strobe cross the northern perimeter at about 300 feet. It came back the next night. A memo from the National Military Command Center recorded an unidentified helicopter "landing briefly in proximity to a weapons storage area," and the Air Force never identified it.
Alleged UFO Skip Site
The Bureau of Land Management built a parking lot and a mile of walking to a patch of public land near Corona it officially calls the place where some people believe a craft came down in July 1947. The ranch where the debris was found is a separate property, private, and closed.
