Some destinations are easy to visit, while others can only be experienced from a respectful distance. Wherever possible, we’ll help you get as close as you legally and safely can.

Every location is researched with the same approach. We document what can be verified, preserve the folklore and local traditions that give a place its character, and clearly distinguish between established history and unresolved claims. The goal isn’t to tell you what to believe. It’s to give you the context to explore each place and draw your own conclusions.

Community participation

Mystery Routes is community-driven, and it gets better every time someone contributes. There are a few concrete ways to take part.

• Explore the map. Start with your own region and see what is already documented near you. You will likely find something you never knew was there.
• Visit the locations. Experience these places for yourself while respecting local communities, access restrictions, and the environment.
• Upload photos. Your photos help document how these places look today and give future visitors a better idea of what to expect.
• Suggest new places. Know a location that belongs in the archive? Send it our way. Approved submissions are credited to the contributor, and you can choose whether your username is displayed publicly.

Mystery Routes will never really be finished, and that’s the point. New stories surface, forgotten places are rediscovered, and local communities continue to preserve knowledge that deserves a wider audience. Every contribution helps make the archive more complete.
